...your Mom is a cultural construct |
a place for anthropological rants, reason, and rapture. Anthropology is a curious beast. It is essentially the study of people from biological, cultural, linguistic, and archaeological perspectives. Since humanity is incredibly diverse, the field of anthropology is as well. My particular passion is medical anthropology. My research interests include: design, consumerism, disability, reproductive health, medical pluralism, sexuality, and stigma. I write this blog for two main reasons. One, it helps me figure out my own ideas. I don't pretend to be an expert on everything I discuss here, just trying to promote a little tolerance and understanding from the anthro perspective. And two, I firmly believe that social scientists are obligated to share their research. The findings are important and should be designed for public consumption. |
LET’S BUILD A MOVEMENT OF CREATIVE HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS. The route to better health care in the states is often shrugged off as an impossibly expensive endeavor. Universal health care is an overlooked solution because we simply cannot afford to give full access of standard American health care to every citizen.
HOWEVER, there is another way. There is a tremendous opportunity to the health care profession to redirect the path of innovation and problem solving in medicine. For as much as we talk about new innovations in health care, there are very few developments intended help deliver existing care options in a more efficient way. For example, research facilities are more focused on developing the bionic man than making CAT scans more affordable.
It is our duty as the next generation of health care professionals to redirect the discourse around innovation! We can find new solutions that make our health care more affordable and better designed for patient needs.
Redesign Innovation; Become a Doctor of the Future
Calling all forward-thinking, creative doctors…
You’re probably a bit of an outsider. Our medical culture doesn’t really reward innovation and creativity. In fact, it actively stifles it.
But I think that if all of us band together, I’m quite confident that something interesting and positive will happen. I think we can be the leaders that simply make healthcare better for everyone.
We’re all types of doctors— internet geeks, policy wonks, neurosurgeons, pediatricians, young, and old. But the one thing that unites us is our curiosity, creativity, and need to think differently. If that’s you, please join us. We’re humbly just getting started.
You should check out this site. There’s definitely some...you could know about too!
